Meet India
India is the master of facing her fears and overcoming obstacles. She believes in pushing others to their maximum potential with the assurance that their difficulties are temporary.
Born and raised in the inner city of Memphis, India is familiar with all facets and activities involving the youth and hopes to rid society of the myths, shame, and stereotypes. She encourages community leaders to take action, create urgency, and help change the minds of Memphis' youth. She realized that there was a substantial desire for our youth to be exposed to post-secondary options so she created POH to prepare youth for Life After High School. She believes that youth who have a plan are less likely to become distracted from their purpose. She holds a Bachelors of Art in French and Sociology with a Criminal Justice concentration from The University of Tennessee, Masters of Art in Social Impact from Claremont Lincoln University, and has over ten years of experience with nonprofits. |
Passionate about juvenile justice reform, India hopes that POH - Memphis will support and advocate for those who are at risk of involvement and those that have come in contact with the juvenile justice system. Her goal is to reduce the number of youth in the juvenile court system, and her hope is for POH-Memphis to build a solid foundation and strong relationships with other organizations in Memphis. India wants to combat the stigma of inner-city youth and those who are labeled as juvenile delinquents by encouraging, uplifting, and motivating them to have faith, stay focused, and pursue happiness. She is striving to make a lasting and impactful impression on youth and young adults that are often overlooked. With curriculum, programming, determination, effective communication and understanding, she knows that Memphis youth, regardless of their background can achieve their greatest desires. She created this organization to give support and assistance to those on their pursuit of happiness.
